Amal walks through a sea of emergency blankets. A river of shoes appears, carrying the stories of millions of children on the move, who seek safety within and across borders. Amal brings them to the feet of U.S. Representatives.
Little Amal is the internationally celebrated 12-foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl at the heart of the Walk. Beginning her journey from the Syrian border, she carries a message of hope for displaced people everywhere, especially children who have been separated from their families. Her urgent message is simple – “don’t forget us.”
The Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics and the Collaborative on Global Children's Issues at Georgetown University welcomed Little Amal with a large-scale community performance in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, September 19. This special celebratory event began with music at Freedom Plaza with a collective and performative procession alongside Amal, leading to her the U.S. Capitol, where a group of bi-partisan legislators were invited to greet her.

The Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics and the Collaborative on Global Children’s Issues at Georgetown University, along with DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID), Franklin Park, Golden Triangle Business Improvement District (BID), Helen Zughaib, Leyya Mona Tawill, Shakespeare Theatre Company, Sing for Hope Choir, Planet Word Museum, Union Station D.C., Union Station Redevelopment Corporation (USRC), Washington Performing Arts Society, Imagination Stage, Kid Power, Kids in Need of Defense and Middle East Institute welcomed Little Amal to Washington D.C. from September 17 to 19.
