Latinx Voices from Law to Opera

Related: Social and Cultural Inclusion

In November 2021, the Georgetown Americas Institute awarded its first collaborative research and student fellow awards. Anna Deeny Morales, adjunct professor in the Center for Latin American Studies, and Ángel Gil-Ordoñez, director of the Georgetown University Orchestra, were awarded a grant to support social and cultural inclusion. The Georgetown Americas Institute was pleased to present Latinx Voices from Law to Opera, a series of three conversations that culminated in the premiere of the new opera ZAVALA-ZAVALA: an opera in v cuts, inspired by one family’s story of separation at the Mexico-U.S. border. The first three panels were on the Georgetown University campus. The premiere of ZAVALA-ZAVALA took place off-campus at the McLean Community Center on April 8 and at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater on April 9.

This series was sponsored by the Georgetown Americas Institute with support from the Center for Latin American Studies.
