Juan Pablo Fernández on Strengthening CODESPA's Monitoring and Evaluation System for Inclusive Rural Development

In April of 2026, Juan Pablo Fernández traveled to Cali, Colombia, to collaborate with the CODESPA Foundation as part of his capstone project, which focuses on strengthening the organization's monitoring and evaluation framework for inclusive rural development.

This trip allowed him to pilot proposed indicators and survey instruments directly with the CODESPA Colombia delegation, while also gathering critical feedback to refine data collection tools before broader organizational implementation. He spent his time in Cali conducting workshops and working sessions with local staff.

Fernández also conducted pilot interviews alongside local staff to test the tools in practice. One example involved the project’s income measurement methodology, where local staff helped better align income measurements with agricultural and commercialization cycles. Beneficiaries in producer records also proved valuable in complementing survey responses. This trip reinforced the importance of field-based collaboration in designing measurement systems for diverse operational contexts.
